FAQ
Is there something you are curious about? Here is a collection of useful Q & A's describing what a photoshoot with me is all about, my editing style and more awesome tid bits! If you want to know more, shoot me an email or better yet; lets grab a latte!
A: In order to stay true to my own creative personality, I don't have a style that is the same for every shoot. I let each unique situation speak to me, and I create base off of what I am given from the location, lighting, decor, personalities of the people etc. That said; I tend to create images with strong compositions, I love contrast; light and dark, and if presented with the opportunity, I always play with negative space. I love capturing true raw emotions, whether they are candid or...posed! I use the technique "flow posing" to get people more relaxed and acting like themselves. You think I will just shoot the first photo,.. but in reality I'm capturing all the in betweens, which is usually the money shot! This provides you with a real smile, or laugh and people are looking much more natural.
After the photography part is complete, I then begin the other half of my art. The editing. This is equally as custom from shoot to shoot. I don't ALWAYS edit, dark and moody, nor do I always edit light and airy. It completely depends on my clients decor, the venue and the lighting that I photographed in. Often, you will be provided with both looks!
I always take into consideration what my clients preferences are as well, so lets chat about your plans and see what we can come up with!
A: I look at the emotion between people first, and then at the surroundings. If it is a very busy image with colour and texture but there's something beautiful happening, I tend to make those black and white. If an image works both in black and white and colour though, I always provide a copy of both.
A. It depends on the service, typically weddings are completed and delivered within 3-4 weeks, and Fine Art Portraits are ready for a reveal within 2.
A. I am currently only taking on 4 wedding bookings and 4 Fine Art portrait sessions per month. This is simply because I provide very personalized service to each client; from the initial meet, through the planning of a shoot, to the editing process. My carefully edited, fine art images take time, and I want to ensure each client recieves my full, 100% attention. This also allows me to keep to my quick image delivery!
A. Firstly! YAY, I LOVE creating these for people. They are so much fun! Everyone should have art hanging in their house, what's better than being featured in it too!? Nothing. After the initial contact; we will meet up at the coolest coffee shop, and chat. Chat about things you love, things that inspire you, about something you've always to be or do. We'll chat about your house, and the kind of "look" you currently have and how/if you want your finished product to follow colour scheme. Once I have a good sound idea of what you want to do, we'll start thinking about what you will wear, and how I will shoot it and ultimately edit it. This part is when I will either make props, or hunt thrift shops. You can be involved as much or as little in this part as you want. I will provide you a list of locations that would work and you have final say. Depending on what the idea is, we will shoot at the best time of day to reflect that. This may mean we will have to get up ridiculously early to catch a magical sunrise. All in all the whole experience is one that you shouldn't forget.
After the photo shoot is complete, I finish my magic on the computer and then you see the final product in person at a reveal. What a nice way to book end the journey; start with a latte and end with a latte! At this reveal, you can purchase as many images as you like. I have an assortment of wall art options as well. All print purchases come with presized digital files for additional printing and social media use. The session fee covers the photoshoot and creative fees and no images.
A. I studied photography and fine art through the Bealart special arts program, then continued with photography at Ryerson University where I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts. Since then, I shoot full time so I never skip a beat, and keep up to date on techniques through tutorials. I love learning! And believe there's always some way to grow as a person and professional.
